How did you start your journey toward becoming a data scientist?
Hey everyone! I’ve been thinking a lot about career paths lately and data science keeps coming up everywhere — friends, job boards, even podcasts I listen to. I’m genuinely interested, but the whole field feels huge and kind of intimidating. I found an article that breaks down the process into manageable steps, from building foundational skills to gaining real experience: https://www.code-sample.com/2023/08/become-data-scientist-in-8-steps.html. After reading it, I felt like maybe it’s more doable than I first thought, especially if you take it one skill at a time. I’m curious how others approached this — did you jump straight into courses, find a mentor, or just start with projects on your own?

Nice topic! I came at it a bit sideways — I had a background in marketing and found myself using Excel for analysis more and more. Eventually I took a weekend crash‑course in data visualization and that sparked something. From there I started experimenting with Python libraries like pandas and matplotlib. It wasn’t a straight path, but I think that’s okay — the important part was just keeping curious and building a little bit every week.
